A weekly email gospel message for the descendents of Ammon and Winona Vail

I don't know if all of you are aware that I have tried to put many of my research papers, gospel handouts and spiritual experiences from my journal on my web page www.cordellvail.com/epistles. I have several times removed much of the materials there because I felt it was too sacred to share because I have received letters like this one:

Comments: You really should feel ashamed of yourself. Your "epistles"?? You are no Paul, I assure you. Your writing is obviously done to impress rather than inspire, and you remind me of how important it is we remain humble. That's quite a shrine to yourself you've created. Congratulations.

I am very torn and concerned as to what I should do. When I get a letter like that then I start asking myself again if I am casting pearls before swine. I only get letters like that a couple times a year. And a few times when they have been willing to give me their email address I have been able to become good friends with them and hopefully over time I can convert them. But still every time I get one of these letters it hurts so much that people would think I am doing this to put myself above anyone else.

The only reason I have continued to leave the web page there is because almost every week I receive letters like this entry in my guest book: (I have removed all their last names and email addresses)

Comments: Thank you so much for sharing your inspirational experiences. You have influenced me very much to try harder to live a better life and to listen to the Holy ghost. You are a wonderful example of being in tune with the spirit. I hope I can do more missionary work. It is comforting to know there are good people in the world such as yourself and your wife and family. May the Lord always bless you in your righteous endeavors.

Then I end up putting it back on there because I almost weekly received several letters like that. ( I have shared a few of them with you here in the Sunday Sermons).

I am just astounded that we have had almost 1,400 people read my testimonies at www.cordellvail.com/family/testimony (the counter on the front page is only at 700 + because there are several other ways you can get to my testimony and by the way if you want to add your testimony to that web page if you will just send it to me I will add it there.)

I have had so many people write me and thank me for my 10 steps to adultery paper. More than any other paper on the web page. Here is just one example.

Dear Sir;

I recently read your outline on the 10 steps to adultery, and would very much like to know if you have a book out on the subject. If you do, please send me the name and if you know where I can purchase it I would really appreciate it. I am going through something in my life right now and your outline really helped me.

Please respond to me I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you very much.

( I think you can tell from the letter that this person is not LDS. We have become very good friends now)

Or this one

Subject: Ten steps back...
Hi Cordell,
I hope you excuse this email. Having seen your website and your invitation to send feedback etc - I hoped I could ask a question.

Do you have an article on: Ten steps to coming back from adultery without losing your mind or heart or capacity love? I do seriously ask as the road back is lonely and painful without a guide or at least an explanation as to why and what is causing the pain.

hopeful,

So in this final Sunday Sermon of the year I would like to ask you as members of my immediate family to give me your opinion. Do you think that I should remove some of the more sacred things from my web page (like the "HE KNEW MY NAME" story). Or just remove the whole web page? And if you do think that the web page is OK, do you think that these Sunday Sermons should be there on the web page? I have received many letters from non-family members thanking me for putting the Sunday Sermons there.

I am so worried that the information intended only for our family should not be placed on a public web page. That was my purpose in creating the web page so that my children and each of you could have a copy of the materials that I have in my journal. It was the only way I could think of to let each of you have a copy when making Photo Copies is so expensive.

I am so concerned about it. One day I think I should and then the next week I change my mind.

Would you give me your opinion?

NOTE: Nothing in any of these Sunday Sermons is intended to represent the official doctrines of the Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They are strictly instructions and teachings from Cordell and Janice Vail to their family.
