Preach My Gospel Manual

This web page is not intended in any way to be a "program of the church" for doing missionary work. It is just some suggestions from us on things we have found that helped us to better follow the already existing church member missionary program as outlined in "Preach My Gospel". Your primary guide in doing member missionary work should be the church's manual "PREACH MY GOSPEL". You can get a copy of the "Preach My Gospel" manual on the following web pages:

Order On Line from BYU Bookstore in several languages
Order From Church Distribution Center in English
Read on line in several languages or hear it in English on your MP3 player

Suggestion for seeing the full scope of this web page first

It is suggested that you scroll down the entire page and read all of the section headings first so you have an understanding of the scope of the material on this web page before you open any of the links. Then you can scroll to sections that you are interested in. It is our hope that the materials on this web page will help you be a better member missionary what ever your calling or situation is.

TALKS THAT WILL HELP YOU TEACH PEOPLE

Profile of a Prophet
Talk By Elder Hugh B. Brown
Assistant to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
The Profile of a Prophet
Elder Hugh B. Brown was a lawyer from Canada serving in England before the start of the 2nd World War. This is a talk he gave years later at BYU, where he shares a conversation he had as a lawyer with a famous judge in England. They discussed what the signs of a true prophet in the Latter-days would be. He was assistant to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when this devotional address was given at Brigham Young University on 4 October 1955.

INDIVIDUALS CAN CONVERT 1000'S

A talk by sister Allred where she shows that the conversion of her family has lead to many other conversions:
Go Ye Therefore: We can all participate in missionary work. This is the Lord’s work, and He will help us do it.

ACCEPTING THE CHALLENGE
Alma 26:22
Yea, he that repenteth and exerciseth faith, and bringeth forth good works, and prayeth continually without ceasing -- unto such it is given to know the mysteries of God; yea, unto such it shall be given to reveal things which never have been revealed; yea, and it shall be given unto such to bring thousands of souls to repentance, even as it has been given unto us to bring these our brethren to repentance.

In a talk published in the July 1985 Ensign, President Ezra Taft Benson used these quotes from talks given by President Spence W. Kimball:

“Wilford Woodruff baptized two thousand people on his mission in England in a short few months and … Heber C. Kimball baptized 1,800 in a few months. … There are hundreds of other brethren who have baptized tens and fifties and hundreds during their missions. Is it possible that each of you could develop some Wilford Woodruffs and Brigham Young's who could baptize hundreds and thousands? Can we raise our sights?” (Mission Presidents’ Seminar, June 1975.)

Quoting from that marvelous verse in the Book of Mormon where Alma talks about bringing thousands of souls unto the Lord, President Kimball then said, “Did you hear the word thousands? … Not hundreds, not dozens, not tens, but thousands. … The Lord … knows what these words mean, and when he uses the word thousands, he means thousands. And that’s ten hundred in a thousand!” (Mission Presidents’ Seminar, June 1978.)....

Thus, the first major emphasis of the Lord’s prophet is to increase the number of convert baptisms in a significant and dramatic way. Will you accept this challenge? Will you share your personal conviction with others that the prophet of the Lord expects us to baptize many more people in a very solid and stable way?

This is the full talk by President Ezra Taft Benson quoting President Kimball's promise that we can convert 1000's as individuals:

CONFERENCE TALKS TO HELP YOU ANSWER QUESTIONS
WHEN YOU DO MEMBER MISSIONARY WORK:

When Constantine became a Christian in the fourth century, he called together a
great convocation of learned men with the hope that they could reach a conclusion
of understanding concerning the true nature of Deity. All they reached was a compromise
of various points of view. The result was the Nicene Creed of A.D. 325. This and subsequent
creeds have become the declaration of doctrine concerning the nature of Deity for most of Christianity ever since.
The Lord is fulfilling His promise that His gospel shall be as the stone cut out of the mountain without hands.
Talk by: President Gordon B. Hinckley
President of the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints
The Stone Cut Out of the Mountain

When the emperor Constantine was converted to Christianity, he became aware
of the divisiveness among the clergy concerning the nature of Deity. In an attempt
to overcome this he gathered the eminent divines of the day to Nicaea in the year 325.
Each participant was given opportunity to state his views. The argument only grew more heated.
When a definition could not be reached, a compromise was made. It came to be known as the Nicene Creed,
and its basic elements are recited by most of the Christian faithful.... How deeply grateful I am
that we of this Church do not rely on any man-made statement concerning the nature of Deity.
Talk by: President Gordon B. Hinckley
President of the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints

Gaining a Testimony of God the Father; His Son, Jesus Christ; and the Holy Ghost

"Mom, Are We Christians?"

The most common request we hear is a fairly simple one that goes something like this:
“Tell me a little about your Church.” The key word here is “little.”
They are not saying, “Tell me everything you know and then send others to tell me everything else.”
Here are four subjects that will help someone today to gain a basic understanding of the Church.
